GAPAHUKER / Nature shelters

Som ivrige friluftslivsentusiaster har vi i Biotope satt oss som mål å utvikle og gi form til den moderne gapahuken. Biotope har mange års erfaring med å utvikle nye gapahuk-konsepter. Fra de enkleste, mer klassisk inspirerte gapahukene til mer komplekse moderne varianter. Biotope har designet flere ulike modeller i ulike størrelser, materialer og i ulike prisklasser. Den moderne gapahuken er Biotope´s signaturbygg: Små bygg for store opplevelser!

🇬🇧 Nature Shelters are as essential as architecture can be. It is the often minimum required construction needed for comfort and shelter from wind and weather. Nature shelters are at the core of Biotope´s architectural work, and we aim to design open and inviting spaces allowing you to connect with nature in comfort.

DAGSTURHYTTER / Mini cabins

De fleste av Biotope´s småskala prosjekter er uten dører og er uterom og gapahuker med gode leplasser. Noen ganger trenger man likevel å kunne lukke døren og holde på varmen. Biotope har tegnet alt fra små fjellhytter og nødbuer til stormhytter ute ved havet. Disse dagsturhyttene er små lukkbare hytter med mulighet for enkel overnatting. Vi har tegnet varianter av disse med både ovn og grillsted. Dagsturhyttene blir fine samlingssteder som kan by på flotte overnattingopplevelser!

🇬🇧 Mini cabins are great places for more sheltered overnight experiences in nature. We have designed several types of cabins, according to terrain, habitat and climate. We always strive for a striking yet, sensible placement in nature. Half the architecture is actually find a great site.

FUGLESKJUL / Bird hides

Å komme tett på naturen uten å forstyrre kan by på unike opplevelser. Biotope´s grunnlegger er selv en ivrig fuglekikker og naturfotograf, som har tilbragt utallige timer i fugleskjul og fotoskjul. Biotope har tegnet og utviklet en rekke typer fugleskjul, som er bygget i Norge, på Island og i England.

🇬🇧 Birds are to many the very essense of living nature. Flying creatures in all shapes, colours, sizes are endlessly fascinating. Biotope is the world´s first and only architectural office with special expertise on birds and birdwatching. Our architectural solutions are built on both understanding and care for nature. Our bird hides carefully balance the need for visibility in order to attract and concentrate human activities, the practical requirements of the birders and sensitivity to the needs of the birds.

FOTOSKJUL / Nature photography hides

Naturopplevelser kommer i mange former og nisjer. Fra isklatring til toppturer til kajakkpadling og naturfotografering og mye mer. Fugle- og dyrefotografering er en interesse på full fart opp og frem. Med våre naturfotoskjul hjelper vi alt fra reiselivsbedrifter til naturreservater å legge tilrette for spektakulær nærkontakt med naturen. 🇬🇧 Nature photography is the pursuit of creative expression and close connection with nature. Nature photography is a massively growing segment. Being a keen nature photographer himself, Biotope founder Tormod Amundsen, have spent countless hours in photography hides. As with all of Biotope´s projects we always aim to improve on excisting concepts or invent new ones. Insights into the rather technical world of nature photography lets us understand the highly specific needs of nature photographers, and design accordingly.

FRILUFTSAMFI / The outdoors amphitheater

Friluftsamfiet er et konsept funnet opp og utviklet av Biotope. Det er et utendørsklasserom, med utstillingsplass og tårndel. Biotope har tegnet flere friluftsamfi, fra de som passer små turgrupper til større friluftsamfi med universell utforming og plass til større grupper.

🇬🇧 The Outdoor Amphitheater (©) was developed by Biotope. At the core of this concept is creating an outdoor classroom. Too often nature is something theoretical tought in schools. With this concept we are aiming to make nature experiences easily available for the general public, and in particular school classes and kindergardens.

HYTTER & LANDSKAPSHOTELL / Lodges & boutique Hotels

Biotope har siden oppstarten i 2009 jobbet tett med reiselivsnæringen. Vi har bidratt til alt fra reiselivs-produktutvikling til å tegne hytter, gjestehus og servicebygg. Vi har god innsikt i reiselivsnæringen og kjenner godt til vertskapsrollen for en bedrift, og hvordan dette kan til uttrykk i arkitekturen. Biotope er som arkitekter involvert i flere landskapshotellprosjekter.

At Biotope we are designing everything from small private off-grid retreats to cabins and even landscape hotels for nature-based tourism businesses

STEDSUTVIKLING / Destination development

Biotope har siden 2009 jobbet mye med helhetlig stedsutvikling og mulighetsstudier. Vi har bidratt til å kartlegge regioner, og beskrive utviklingsmuligheter innen reiseliv. Vi har jobbet med en rekke kommuner og destinasjoner både i Norge og på Island, og bidratt til prosjekter som har fått stor og positivt innvirkning på regionalt reiseliv og næringsutvikling.

🇬🇧 Destination development schemes and feasability studies are a key part of Biotope´s work. A destination is a well thought through place based experience. It is a clear story that matches the uniqueness of a nature reserve, a region or a community. Biotope have helped build several nature based destinations. Through visual identity development, maps, branding, storytelling and finally the architectural approach, we help develop destinations and tell their stories.

UTSTILLINGER & DESIGN / Exhibitions

Biotope er mest kjent for våre små stykker arkitektur, og en spesialisert satsing som “naturarkitekter”. Vi er riktignok et nisjekontor, men innen natur- og friluftslivsnisjen jobber vi bredt og helhetlig. Vi har både tegnet og hatt byggledelse for flere utstillinger. Vi jobber mye med innholdsproduktsjon og grafisk design, og har som arkitekter og designere en unik innsikt i naturbaserte prosjekter.

🇬🇧 As an architectural practice we are well known for our small scale pieces of architecture designed to connect people with nature. However at Biotope we work very broadly within our niché. Biotope have designed several exhibitions and we contribute both as content producers and designers.

FOREDRAG / Lectures & talks

Biotope har i mange år blitt invitert til en lang rekke konferanser, ambassader, arkitektskoler og naturvernorganisasjoner for å holde foredrag eller workshops. Etter mange år med målrettet arbeid innen naturnisjen har vi opparbeidet oss unik erfaring og innsikt innen alt fra reiseliv til stedsutvikling, naturvern og entreprenørskap, alt sett fra arkitektens ståsted.

🇬🇧 Biotope contribute to a wide range of projects, and have given talks in a variety of settings. Biotope founder Tormod have been invited to conferences, embassies, architecture schools, etc to give talks on architecture, sustainability, community engagement, entrepreneurship and nature conservation. We love sharing our views, insights and experiences after more then 10 years of Biotope engagement.
